- one lobule weighs 13 g on average
The originator declares that the yield of Bogatyr is practically independent of soil characteristics.
Based on the initial data, we will try to calculate the yield of the Bogatyr independently:
- The variety has a powerful root system - its area is about 50 square meters. cm.
- When landing according to the 17x45 scheme, 6-7 cloves fit on a bed 1 m long.
- For 1 square. m 2 rows are placed - these are 14-16 cloves. Each clove will give a garlic head weighing 80 g.
To calculate the yield, multiply the weight of one head by the number of heads grown by 1 square. m: 80 g x 15 pcs = 1200 g. It turns out, per 1 square. m collect 1.2 kg of garlic.

Where is it recommended to land?

- choose areas with good lighting;
- the site should not be waterlogged or swampy, otherwise the teeth planted in the soil will rot in the wet soil before spring;

Preparation for landing
The landing site is prepared in 7-10 days - during this time, the loosened soil will settle down and subsequently the cloves of garlic planted on the beds will not come out of the soil. Garlic is unpretentious, and special preparation of beds is not needed. Fertilizing during planting is not done - it is not needed for winter. They feed “Athlete” in the spring, when the growing season comes.
Priming
If garlic is grown on fertile soils, then top dressing is optional. Processing of the plot prepared for landing:
- cleaning of plant residues;
- if the soils are poor, then peat mix, compost, ash, superphosphate or complex fertilizer are scattered before digging;
- surface treatment of the plot with a solution of potassium permanganate - for disinfection;
- digging or flat cutting;
- breaking lumps of earth and leveling the surface with a rake;
- laying furrows for landing, their depth is 13 cm.
In order not to make furrows manually, gardeners use a special marker marking the plot. Thanks to the marker, the task of planting garlic is facilitated, while garlic cloves are placed on the site evenly.
Planting material
To get a good crop, teeth for planting are sorted out, removing small and damaged ones. In order to prevent rot, fungal and mold infections, all planting material is disinfected.
Disinfection of planting material is carried out in two solutions:
- Saline. Prepared by dissolving 1 tbsp. l in 2 liters of water.
- From copper sulfate. For 2 liters of water - 1 tsp.
The cloves of garlic are immersed in saline for 3 minutes, and then in the second solution - also for 3 minutes. Disinfecting planting material, it is carefully dried.
Timing
Winter garlic in different regions is planted at different times. Between the landing and the onset of stable frosts, 1-1.5 months should pass. This time culture needs rooting. If the garlic does not have time to take root, it will be difficult for him to survive the winter.
In the north, winter garlic is usually planted in mid-October, in the south in November. In the warmest regions, landing begins even in December. If you hurry with the planting, the garlic will have time to sprout, which will be destroyed by the first frost. When choosing a landing time, focus on the climate in the region and on long-term weather forecasts.
Step-by-step landing guidelines
The Bogatyr garlic is planted by any of two methods - in holes or in grooves. In the furrows, garlic heads are larger.
How to plant garlic Bogatyr:
- The teeth are buried by 10-13 cm - this is the distance from the bottom to the surface of the earth.
- Between adjacent rows should be approximately 45 cm. This is almost twice as much as when growing other varieties.
- The intervals between adjacent cloves are 16-18 cm.
- Manure is not necessary.
- Planting is sprinkled with mulch before the onset of frost. As mulch use hay, straw, leaves.
Further care for the hero
Activities for the care of the variety "Bogatyr":
- Watering. In the spring, garlic begins to grow actively. He needs regular watering. But you can not fill the beds - you can provoke root rot.
- Loosening. Carried out after each watering. Along the way, weed vegetation is removed.
- Delete arrows. All arrows tear off when they reach a length of 8-10 cm. Leave a few pieces - if you need "bulbs" for reproduction. If you do not remove the arrows, they will take nutrients from the plant, and large heads will not grow.

How to propagate?
The variety "Bogatyr" is propagated by two methods:
- Cloves. In autumn, cloves of garlic extracted from garlic-tootheds are planted in the ground. Harvest of full-fledged garlic heads is harvested in the summer - 100-120 days after emergence.
- Air onions. When propagated by onions growing on the top of the shooters, the crop is received only in the second year. In the first year, only a single-onion bulb grows. This method of propagation is usually used to update the variety. In addition, air bulbs are affordable and free planting material.
When and how to collect?
The signal for harvesting garlic is yellowing and drying of the lower leaves. It is impossible to be late with cleaning - heads, having "sat out" in the ground, crack and darken. Such a crop does not lie for long.
When the tops turn yellow and dry, the heads are removed from the ground. The Bogatyr has powerful roots and sits firmly in the ground. Digging with a pitchfork or a shovel. In order not to damage the integrity of the garlic, use a pitchfork or a shovel to pry them from below.
The roots of dug garlic are cut off, and for the leaves it is tied in bunches. Hanging ligaments in the shade, wait for them to dry completely.
Requirements and terms for storage of garlic
When the garlic finally dries, the tops are cut off from it, leaving a stump of 3 cm long, and the heads are laid for storage. The garlic storage room must be dry and ventilated. The optimum temperature is from 0 to +5 ° C.
