An unbalanced diet and a lack in the bird's menu of vital substances - vitamins, amino acids, macro- and microelements - leads to the fact that chickens cease to rush. This problem can be solved with the help of complex additives or premixes containing all the necessary elements in optimal concentration. "Ryabushka" also refers to such means. What it consists of and how to give it to laying hens, we will find out further.
What is this supplement?
"Ryabushka" is a vitamin and mineral supplement, which is made in the form of a premix and is a light brown powder. Feeding should be mixed with food to help the laying hen resume the balance of vitamins and minerals in the body.
We recommend reading the article on vitamins to increase the egg production of chickens.
In addition, regular use of premix has a positive effect on the digestive system of chickens, strengthens their skeleton, supports the immunity of birds and increases productivity, due to which egg production rises to 320 eggs per year. An additional advantage of Ryabushka is that it improves the quality of the eggs themselves - they become larger and rarely appear with two yolks.
A quality supplement has a uniform consistency and is free from lumps, mold or fungi. It smells of vitamins, since it contains no flavorings.
The main characteristics of Ryabushka are presented in the following table:

The composition of the drug
The additive contains various active ingredients that positively affect the body of laying hens. The exact set of elements depends on the form in which the product is released - powder or briquette.
The composition of the powder
The additive has a rich composition, because it includes:
1 Vitamins
Layers need them in small quantities, but they are important elements for the normal functioning of all systems of their body. Here are the vitamins presented in the premix:
Vitamin Name | Content per kg of premix in grams, milligrams or international units |
A (retinol) | 1.4 million IU |
B1 (thiamine) | 0.4 g |
B2 (riboflavin) | 0.6 g |
B3 or PP (nicotinic acid or niacin) | 4 g |
B4 (Choline) | 50 g |
B5 (pantothenic acid) | 4 g |
B6 (pyridoxine) | 0.8 g |
B12 (cyanocobalamin) | 5 mg |
D3 (cholecalciferol) | 300,000 IU |
E (tocopherol) | 1 g |
K (naphthoquinone) | 0.2 g |
H (biotin) | 20 mg |
2 Minerals
They help to improve the appearance of feathers, promote uniform cover and development of the embryo, and participate in the processes of cleansing the body from blood clots and toxic substances. Here are the main minerals that are contained in the supplement:
The name of the mineral | Content per 1 kg premix | Functions |
Cobalt (Co) | 0.2 g | The mineral is involved in metabolism and hematopoiesis, therefore, indispensable for the normal functioning of birds. With its deficiency in chickens, a perversion of appetite, metabolic disturbance, anemia, progressive exhaustion are observed. |
Manganese (Mn) | 10 g | An element with a protective function, which is responsible for the normal functioning of the musculoskeletal system, prevents the formation of excess fat and the absorption of harmful substances in the liver. |
Iron (Fe) | 2 g | An essential element in the diet of birds, as it is necessary for the formation of hemoglobin - a complex iron-containing protein. The mineral is reversibly bound to oxygen and carries it to all the "corners" of the body. |
Iodine (I) | 0.14 g | An indispensable element for the proper functioning of the bird's endocrine system, as it is involved in the synthesis of hormones. |
Copper (Cu) | 0.5 g | Responsible for the proper development of the embryo and improves the reproductive activity of females. In addition, this trace element helps to remove harmful substances from the body and strengthen the feather cover. Copper richness makes chickens fresh, healthy and attractive. |
Zinc (Zn) | 12 g | An enzyme that stimulates the metabolism of proteins and carbohydrates. In addition, it improves pancreatic function, plays a significant role in tissue respiration and blood formation, that is, it has a direct effect on the development of a living organism. The processes of egg shell formation and skeleton development are not complete without zinc. |
In small quantities, "Ryabushka" also contains such trace elements:
- selenium - helps tocopherol (vitamin E) accumulate in the body, is an immunostimulant, removes toxic substances from the body, prevents the occurrence of cardiovascular diseases and stomach diseases;
- calcium - it is necessary for the formation of a strong egg shell, therefore, when it is lacking, chickens lay eggs either with a thin shell or without it at all, and young animals develop rickets, bones become brittle and brittle, their growth stops;
- phosphorus - is present in all tissues of a living creature, participates in the synthesis of collagen and is one of the components of nucleic acids.
Scientists believe that phosphorus is the only representative of the mineral series that directly affects the quality of meat.
3Amino acids
It is their number that affects the usefulness of proteins, which are necessary for the normal development of a living organism. Especially the need for proteins increases during the laying period. But not all amino acids are synthesized in the body - some of them come only with food. So that the layer gets all the necessary amino acids, the additive contains:
- lysine - helps to absorb calcium, and also participates in the synthesis of collagen, enzymes, skeletal tissues and carnitine (an antioxidant necessary for lipid metabolism);
- methionine - an amino acid with sulfur content, which is involved in lipid metabolism and the formation of feathers in birds, and also supports the productivity of laying hens.
The composition of the nutritional briquette
In addition to the powdery premix, the manufacturer offers a bioactive multi-component feed in a convenient form of nutrient briquette. Its composition includes only natural components:
- corn and barley grains;
- sunflower seeds;
- vitamins - A, D3, E, group B (B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B6, B12), K, H;
- macronutrients - sulfur, phosphorus and calcium;
- trace elements - iron, manganese, cobalt, iodine, copper, zinc, selenium.
In addition, the following ingredients are added to the briquette:
- vegetable protein, which is a building material for tissues;
- vegetable fat rich in fat-soluble vitamins (A, E, D, K) and playing an important role in lipid metabolism;
- polyunsaturated fatty acid (linoleic), with a lack of which there is an increased need for water in chickens, the body's resistance to various pathogenic factors decreases and the development of the embryo in the egg is impaired;
- easily digestible sugars that release enough energy and ensure the normal functioning of the digestive system;
- salt - increases appetite and is involved in metabolic processes;
- sulfur, participating in the formation of fluff and feathers, claws;
- Cystine is an amino acid that contributes to the formation of feathers, and is also capable of absorbing ultraviolet rays, which protects the birds from the harmful excess exposure to ultraviolet radiation.
Regardless of the form of release, Ryabushka has no hormones, preservatives, stimulants, or genetically modified objects.
Pharmachologic effect
The correct dosage and use of "Ryabushka" improves the overall health of birds, as well as:
- increases egg production of laying hens, which can carry up to 5-6 eggs per week, and up to 280-300 eggs per year;
- contributes to the formation of a more durable and hard shell;
- increases the mass of eggs;
- Helps the normal development of laying hens and supports their strong immunity;
- prevents the development of vitamin deficiency;
- It is an excellent prevention of cannibalism;
- reduces the risk of eye diseases, rickets in birds;
- gives plumage of birds a healthy look;
- reduces the mortality rate of young animals;
- increases the body weight of slaughtered chicken by 10-15%.
The use of premix contributes to the proper absorption of food in the body of birds, and therefore reduces feed costs.
Instructions for use
Before giving premix to chickens, you must definitely read the instructions from the manufacturer on the package. It should be understood that Ryabushka is not a feed, but an additive that needs to be added to the main diet, so feeding cannot be completely replaced with it.
Find out more about feeding hens here.
The daily dose of Ryabushka depends on the individual:
- 0.25 g - per chicken;
- 0.5 g - for one adult broiler, rooster and another individual that does not perform the functions of an egg supplier;
- 1 g - for one laying hen.
For easier use, it should be noted that in one tablespoon contains 20-24 g of the additive, in one teaspoon - 3-4 g. Knowing how much drug per individual, you can easily calculate the daily dose for the entire population. As a rule, packaging an additive weighing 150 g is enough to prepare 30 kg of animal feed.
In order for Ryabushka to mix well with food, the required amount of the drug should be mixed with the same portion of wheat flour or bran (1: 1). The finished vitamin-flour mixture should be added to the feed and mix it thoroughly.
Premix can only be added to cold food, because when mixed with hot food, some of the vitamins are destroyed.
The manufacturer recommends feeding the bird with a premix 2-3 times a day. The estimated daily dose of the drug should be divided into equal portions in accordance with the number of meals. Each serving should be added to cold freshly prepared food and mixed well. It should be noted that the daily premix rate can be given at one meal, but you need to do this in the morning, when the gastrointestinal tract works best and is able to digest the resulting supplement.
If “Ryabushka” is entered into the chicken menu, birds need to provide free access to fresh and clean water. So, it is recommended several times a day to change the water in the drinkers.
If daily to give hens premix, then in 10-13 days their productivity will increase to 5-6 eggs per week. In addition, you can notice an improvement in the quality of the eggs - their yolk will be bright orange in color, and the shell will become noticeably denser.
Side effects and contraindications
Mineral-vitamin supplement will never cause side effects, if you follow all the rules of its use:
- strictly observe the dosage;
- feed only poultry;
- provide chickens with access to cold, clean water;
- Do not mix with industrial feed;
- observe storage conditions, keeping away from chemical or toxic substances, other fertilizers.
Regarding contraindications, it should be noted that Ryabushka is strictly forbidden to use with other complex additives. The fact is that each of them already contains a complete balanced set of vitamins and minerals, therefore, with a parallel intake, the likelihood of hypervitaminosis is high - an excess of vitamins in the body, which causes intoxication with ultra-high doses. Related to this is a ban on the simultaneous use of additives and industrial feed.

Reviews of breeders
Ryabushka is one of the most popular vitamin and mineral supplements, so experienced breeders not only share their impressions, but also give useful tips.
Semen, 54 years old, Kursk region I keep a small number of chickens and guinea fowls. As the middle of winter approaches, write-gone. During molting, half-bald ones run, they practically do not carry eggs, and what they laid down, they ate immediately. During these periods I give the Ryabushka to the birds - it can’t afford it, and the composition, it seems, is normal, without any chemistry. I also do not experience difficulties in using - I counted, figured and added. I feed guinea fowls separately from chickens, as they have different dosages. Changes for the better are observed quickly - after 2 weeks, the laying hens cease to peck eggs and become more active.
Nina Nikolaevna, 62 years old, Belgorod region Chickens are my earnings. I sell eggs, and in the spring - young growth. When they began to lag behind in development, she began to give them Ryabushka. She noticed that since the autumn, the molting of the hens was less painful and even lasted less than usual. The eggs are bigger. In the spring I put three hens on eggs and waited. I was glad that the hens did not roll out a single egg from the nests (before that, 2-3 were constantly rolled to the side). Chickens hatched from all eggs, so pretty, active.
Larisa, 37 years old, Moscow region Having retired, she decided to do poultry farming for the soul. I bought a few chickens and a cockerel. “Ryabushka” began to give them from the very beginning as a prophylaxis of vitamin deficiency in the autumn-winter period, when they are sitting in my house without a hitch. The consumption of the additive is small for my small livestock, it lasts a long time. They do it in our suburbs, maybe that's why the price does not bite. The composition is clear, natural. All vitamins and minerals are present. While the hens make me happy - they don’t get sick, they rush well, they don’t peck at each other. The egg yolk is bright orange, which I have never seen in store eggs.
Mikhail, 45 years old, Sverdlovsk region I have been breeding chickens for a long time - the river is near by, free-range. I did not think about additional mineral dressings until I noticed how two hens constantly feel their girlfriend in the winter. And then I read that cannibalism is often manifested if the birds' nutrition is unbalanced and they lack vitamins, macro- and microelements. I decided to try Ryabushka. A week later, the chickens became calmer, and the patient quickly recovered and even managed to grow new feathers by spring. ”
Vladimir, 64 years old, Tver region I have only positive experience in using Ryabushka. It is only necessary to calculate the dose per livestock and mix the powder into the feed. From time to time I also buy Ryabushka in a briquette. Very convenient thing - the composition of vitamins and elements is no different, but it is more convenient to use. He put it down and forgot it for a week. The briquette is designed for 10 hens for 7 days, the exact dosage is not required.
