Agriculture Tomato Growing Ladies Fingers
Planting seeds and growing tomato seedlings does not cause much difficulty. The main thing is to pre-prepare the seeds, which will remove empty and guaranteed to receive seedlings.
Seed handling
In advance, prepare the seed for planting - treat with growth stimulants, which will allow for disinfection. Therefore, in the future, the bushes will not suffer from diseases and will give a good harvest.
Additionally, you can soak the seeds and place on a cloth or napkin, periodically wetting it. When the seeds germinate, transplant into the ground, and discard those that are left without sprouts.
Growing seedlings
Planting seeds for seedlings is carried out approximately in mid-March (50-60 days before the planned planting in the ground). Depending on which climate zone you live in, select the optimal time.
The landing procedure consists of several stages:
- Prepare the soil and crates for planting. Treat the soil with manganese solution for disinfection. You can also use ready-made purchased soil.
- Plant seeds to a depth of not more than 1 cm, moisten the soil a little, cover the boxes with a layer of film and place in a warm place.
- After about a week, the first shoots appear, after which remove the film, lower the temperature to +15 degrees. Do not forget about the need for proper lighting, additionally set the backlight.
- When the third leaf has formed, dive the seedlings in separate containers. Remove the tip from the central root, which accelerates its development.
- About 14 days before transplanting seedlings to a permanent place, begin hardening - take out a couple of hours to fresh air every day.
Planting seedlings in the ground
Approximately on the 50th day of seedling growth, it must be planted in open ground, but not earlier than in early May.
Follow these steps:
- plant early in the morning before the heat sets in, making tomatoes easier to adapt to a new place;
- transplant plants with soil from a glass to the same depth;
- if the plant is too tall, plant it under a slight slope, so that with the root under the ground there will also be an extra stem;
- between the rows leave a distance of about 50 cm, between the bushes - at least 30 cm;
- stick to the scheme - for 1 square. m no more than 6-7 bushes.
Planting and caring for plants
The described type of tomato is not too moody and does not require special conditions. But to get a rich harvest, you need to follow a few simple rules for the care and cultivation - timely watering, fertilizing, garter and weeding, because weeds can be carriers of dangerous diseases.
Bushes garter
The height of Ladies' Fingers is not more than 1 m, therefore a garter is not required. For garter, you can use a vertical or horizontal trellis, the fence is not high, metal or wooden stakes.
Carry out a horizontal garter as the bushes grow:
- install the supporting elements on which to pull the wire or cord;
- it is to the stretched wire and tie the plants - you can tie both the trunk itself and the hands.
Watering
In the spring, there is enough moisture in the soil, so it is enough to water the plantings every 7-8 days. For more frequent watering use a hose, taking into account the following norm - on 1 sq. m plot of 40-45 liters of water (about 7-8 bushes).
Before pouring water into the trench, moisten the soil with a small amount of water, thereby improving absorption. No watering in rainy and cloudy weather.
For irrigation, use warm water (about +14 degrees), as it is faster and better absorbed by the bushes.
Top dressing
3 weeks after planting seedlings in open ground, the first top dressing is carried out. After a month, fertilizers are applied again when active flowering and fruit formation begins.
The use of finished types of fertilizers is considered optimal. The mixture should contain nitrogenous (5 g), potash (10 g) and phosphorus fertilizers (10 g). Between rows close up dry fertilizers.
Adhere to the following feeding scheme:
- water after planting;
- a day later, after the soil dries, apply the bulk method of fertilizer;
- a day later, loosen the soil;
- 5-6 days later, water.

Harvesting
As you ripen, harvest the tomatoes. The optimal time for this variety is June-July. Break fruit off the branches so that their shell is not damaged. If you plan to store tomatoes for a long time, remove the peduncle, otherwise it can injure other fruits.
The ripened fruits should be placed in boxes, which are placed in a ventilated and dry room, without signs of mold. At a temperature of + 3 ... +6 degrees, tomatoes can be stored for a long time. You can also pick up not fully ripened tomatoes, which will extend their shelf life.
Ripe tomatoes cannot be stored for longer than 20 days, if the fruits are unripe, they can be in crates for longer than 30 days.
Disease and Pest Prevention
The described tomato variety is highly resistant to diseases and pests. Regardless of whether they will grow in greenhouse conditions or in open ground. Most often, a disease such as a mosaic is manifested, in which all the affected leaves must be cut off and burned.
Bacteria and fungi are the main distributors of diseases, which are activated in the presence of adverse growing conditions.
To prevent the development of dangerous diseases or an attack of pests, it is worth adhering to several preventive measures:
- treat the seed material with a disinfecting infusion - for example, copper sulfate or potassium permanganate;
- during the period of active growth, sprinkle the bushes with dry ash or treat with an ash-like mood (helps against late blight);
- Remove affected leaves or bushes from the garden.
If it was discovered the presence of a specific disease - carry out the treatment with chemicals.
Reviews
Valeria, 44 years old, accountant, Krasnodar. I have quite a few different varieties of tomato, and for more than 10 years I have been planting this species. I grow ladies' fingers in the open field, and every year I get a good and big crop. We can say that plants literally bend under the weight of the fruit. All tomatoes are very tasty, with a slight acidity, and are ideal for salads and salting.
Dmitry, 38 years old, farmer, Moscow region. I chose ladies' fingers for preserving whole fruits. And this variety has never made me regret my choice. But I collect all the seeds myself and this process does not cause any problems at all. The most important thing is to choose only ripe and juicy fruits. I have been cultivating the variety for many years and they have never been sick or caused special difficulties in care.
